Our RV10 Build

The chronicle of this Van's RV10 airplane building started in our garage. Vans RV10 is an experimental cross-country flying machine carrying 4 people and luggage. It can cruise just under 200 mph with a ceiling of 20,000 ft. At 55% power, it can cruise at 180mph with a range of 1000 miles.

Why Van’s RV10?

Since I got my pilot's license in 2005, I have been thinking of owning an airplane. In 2010 I came very close to buying a Cessna 172 from a known person who decided to quit flying. Let us say life happened, and it did not work out as planned. At that time, someone at the airport invited me to a local EAA fly-in breakfast and showed me a few experimental aircraft that flew in that day. I was blown away by the idea of building my plane from scratch. I always enjoyed the thrill and subscribed to "Why buy, When you can build it better" philosophy, which led me to build my 3d printers, CNC machines, laser cutters, and many other tools for my home shop over a while.

The first airplane that caught my eye was the velocity. I love the looks, performance, and car-like interior of the airplane. Then I looked at a few other aircraft, including various LSAs, and finally, it came down to Sling and Van's RV. Someone at the airport I talked about experimental took it upon himself to educate me on building the airplane for one's mission, which led me to finalize my choice of RV10. As I reached out to fellow RV builders in my local area for advice, a fellow RV pilot was kind enough to offer me a walk-through of his plane and a breakfast flight in his RV10, and I was hooked. RV10 has everything I hoped for and more. Before I knew it, I was neck deep in order forms, shipment tracking, and garage cleaning to get the build started.
